Entry requirements

  • English Language Proficiency: Academic IELTS 5.5 (no individual band less than 5.0) or ISLPR 2+ on all skills or other - For a list of all English Language test accepted by TAFE Queensland International
  • Academic Requirements: Completion of Year 12 (or equivalent). Non school-leavers must have relevant work experience or qualification that indicates likely success of course completion. For more information on the international education achievement levels equivalent to Year 10 and 12.

Students should be a minimum of 18 years of age. Student visa applicants under the age of 18 will be accepted where they demonstrate that they will be accompanied by a parent, legal custodian or a suitable relative who is aged 21 or over. Resources required

It is recommended that students have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system Connect and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for students to use at all TAFE Queensland locations.

Courses may require different resources, depending on your study location:

Timetable

Timetables may be available online or may be provided to you at your program orientation.

Your timetable may change every semester and you must be able to manage your commitments to ensure attendance at all your classes.

Timetables will be different across TAFE Queensland locations. This is an example of what a course timetable could look like -  

Monday and Tuesday 8.00 am - 4.45 pm and Wednesday 8.00 am - 12.00 pm.

Or

Wednesday and Thursday 8.00 am - 4.45 pm and Friday 8.00 am - 12.00 pm.

Placement

Some qualifications require students to participate in vocational placement to successfully complete and achieve their TAFE Queensland award. If vocational placement is a course requirement it will be organised by your School/Faculty and you will be provided with all the information you need to prepare. Remember you are responsible for ensuring you have met all the requirements to participate in vocational placement.

During these placements, you may become familiar with information that is confidential to that workplace (for example financial or business affairs, personal affairs and family background of staff and clients, technical information, trade secrets, know-how, formulae, processes, ideas, and inventions). You must not divulge any confidential information that you become aware of during a placement. Breaches of confidentiality will be considered to be acts of behavioural misconduct and may result in disciplinary action.

Additional costs

There are additional costs associated with this course, that are not included in your fees. Further information regarding uniforms for each campus will be provided at orientation to ensure the uniform meets workplace health and safety requirements and industry standards. The purchases of the below items should only be made after teacher consultation at orientation;

Southport Hospitality:

There is a set uniform to be purchased.  A representative from our supplier Totally Workwear will be available at Orientation. At this time you will be sized and orders made with payment directly with our supplier. If you do not attend the Orientation day, you will be responsible for making your own arrangements directly with the supplier, Totally Workwear within seven days of the scheduled Orientation day.

Students will be required to purchase the following:

  • compulsory black business shirt with TAFE logo (from Totally Workwear).  Approximate cost is $48.00 per shirt.  The purchase of 2 shirts is recommended.
  • Black business style pants (male and female) (leggings and/or tights will not be accepted) or a black knee length business style skirt. These can be purchased from your preferred outlet or through our supplier Totally Workwear.
  • Black enclosed leather non-slip shoes.
  • It is recommended that students have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online systems, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for students to use at a number of TAFE Queensland locations.
  • Students are required to have a valid and appropriate email address. 
  • Please provide your own personal stationery.
  • Students require the following textbooks: 'Management' 5th edition by Kris Cole and 'Front Office Skills' by Vivienne O'Shennessy.  These books can be obtained through most bookstores.
  • It is recommended that students have access to a reliable internet connection to access online studies and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for students to use at all TAFE Queensland locations.

Cairns, Pimlico (Townsville) and Whitsundays:

Uniforms are to be worn at all times during practical services/functions, plus during any/all excursions. This ensures that our students are recognised by Industry as highly employable graduates with impeccable standards of presentation and dress. The uniform requirements are to be provided by students at their own cost and are as follows:

Cairns and Townsville (Pimlico) campus:

Application Process

Applying to TAFE Queensland International is easy. You can submit an application at any time, but get in early as positions are limited. Follow the steps below to apply to study at TAFE Queensland.

Before you apply

  1. Check the evidence required to apply for your visa

    Before you apply to study at TAFE Queensland, you should check what documents and evidence you will need to provide to the Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) to support your visa application.

    How to check what evidence you will need to provide to obtain a visa:

    • Visit the Student Visa (subclass 500) page on the DIBP website
    • Scroll down to the Document Checklist Tool
    • Select the country listed on your passport
    • Enter 03020E in the Education Provider CRICOS code field
    • Answer the final question: I am one of the following
    • Click the Display Evidence button
    • Read through the Documentary Evidence List to find out what you will need to submit with your visa application

  2. Review Admissions criteria and key dates

    Some courses require you to meet additional entry requirements eg. Submit a portfolio or artwork with your application. Please check individual course requirements via the Course page.

  3. Prepare your certified supporting documents

    If you are an international student applying directly to TAFE Queensland, you will need to include certified copies of the following documents to support your application:

    • Copy of passport
    • Educational certificate and academic records
    • English language test results

  4. Applying as a mature aged student

    Mature age students (at least 21years of age and with work experience/other qualifications) may be admitted into a program without meeting the formal academic requirements.
    The following documentation is required to support your application:

    • Current CV
    • References on company letterhead from current or previous employers

    Where previous study/employment was conducted in English, submit a certified letter from the educational institution/employer confirming the language of instruction/employment was English.
  5. Under 18 students

    International student visa applicants under the age of 18 will only be accepted where they demonstrate that they will be accompanied by a parent, legal custodian or a suitable relative who is aged 21 or over. For more information visit Department of Immigration and Border Protection website.

  6. Submit your application

    Submit your application and supporting documents through TAFE Queensland's online application portal or through a TAFE Queensland Registered Agent who can guide you through the enrolment process.

    Receive your Letter of Offer

    Accepting your Letter of Offer

    Note the expiry date for acceptance.

    • Meet all conditions as outlined in your Letter of Offer and Acceptance
    • Read and agree to the Terms and Conditions of your Letter of Offer and Acceptance
    • Read the International Student Refund Policy
    • Read the TAFE Queensland student rules
    • Pay the tuition fees as stated in your Letter of Offer
    • Pay for Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) as stated in your Letter of Offer, or arrange your own OSHC for the duration of your visa.

    Travel to Queensland and attend Orientation

    Once you have received your student visa, you can travel to Queensland ready to attend the TAFE Queensland International Orientation.

Orientation

At the beginning of each semester orientation events are hosted across TAFE Queensland locations.

TAFE Queensland recommends you arrive two weeks prior to your course start date to allow time to organise and settle into your accommodation and prepare for your studies.

International Orientation details are emailed to you prior to commencing your studies or they can be accessed via the Orientation Schedule.

Program specific orientations are also conducted one week prior to the start of study. This is an opportunity for you to meet your teachers and classmates, get to know your campus, and familiarise yourself with your study schedule.
