Rob is a qualified carpenter, he holds the qualification above and exhibits all of the skills required to perform a range of carpentry and construction jobs.

Rob’s fundamental skills are as follows:

BCGCA3002B Carry Out setting out

Rob has prepared the site prior to construction. He has located survey indicators and boundaries as set out by the surveyor and set up ready for ground works to commence. He has set up profiles, string lines and checked the “squareness” of the job site.

BCGCA3004B Construct Wall Frames

Rob has erected a range of load and non load bearing wall studs . He has set out, cut and constructed wall frames in a variety of applications including top and bottom plates and studs. He has also installed bracing to wall frames to secure the structure.

BCGCM1001B Follow OH& S Policies and Procedures

Rob demonstrates site safety awareness he has a construction industry blue card and he follows the site safety regulations. He is aware of his obligations in relation to safety and put this into practice on site.

BCGCA2001B Handle Carpentry Materials

Rob practices safe handling of required raw materials he understands the correct uses of a range of modern construction timbers and associated products and has used a variety of materials in his jobs.

BCGA2002B Use Carpentry Tools and Equipment

Rob can use a variety of hand and power tools in the construction industry including pneumatic tools. He can confidently select, use and maintain required tools to carry out a range of jobs in a safe working environment.

BCGCA3001B Carry Out General Demolition to Minor Building Structures

Rob has safely undertaken general demolition work in the construction industry. He has dealt with demolition of a range of structures to prepare for alterations or extensions. He has appropriately dealt with hazardous materials by first identifying and taking action to inform appropriate licensed contractors.

BCGCA3005B Construct Ceiling Frames

Rob has planned and set out ceiling frames to accommodate ceiling joists, hanging beams etc. He has constructed ceiling frames to support a range of ceiling materials.

BCGCA3007B Construct a Pitched Roof

Rob can construct a basic pitched roof to accommodate a variety of roofing materials and waterproofing requirements. He can cut rafters and ridge boards and construct hip and valley roof structures.

BCGCA 3010B Install and Replace Windows and Doors

Rob has undertaken repair and replacement of doors and windows. He can remove and replace windows and doors in a renovation and repair situation.

BCGCA 3032B Carry Out Levelling Operations

Rob has undertaken site levelling processes. He has used rise and fall methods as well as instruments specifically to establish correct and accurate building set out and preparation.

BCGCM1002B Work Effectively in General Construction Industry

Rob has experience in working in small teams and is capable of working independently as well. He demonstrates an awareness of the construction industry codes and understands his employment obligations and responsibilities.

BCGCM1003B Plan and Organise Work

Rob is organised in his approach to work he demonstrates an ability to select the appropriate materials and tools for the job. He can calculate and order the basic material requirements for a small job. He approaches work in an organised and efficient manner.

BCGCM 1004B Conduct Workplace Communication

Rob communicates well with his employer, work mates, suppliers and contractors. He is able to deal with complex situations as they unfold and work confidently as part of a team.

BCGCM1005B Carry Out Measurements and Calculations

Rob can calculate measurements required at work.. He can calculate and measure required timber lengths etc. He can calculate effectively to determine material required for a small job including volume and area calculations.

BCGCM2001B Read and Interpret Plans

Rob can read a basic building plan and interpret its requirements to complete a job. He can take measurements off a plan and transfer that to site calculations.

BCGCM2002B Carry Out Excavation

Rob has undertaken site excavation by assisting and directing plant and equipment operators to dig footings and prepare them for laying steel and concrete. He has dug basic post holes using hand tools and undertaken excavation to begin a job.

BCGCM2007B Use Explosive Power Tools

Rob has used EPT’s to fasten materials to concrete, masonry and steel substrate. He is able to safely use explosive power tools in a construction job. He has obtained an approved licence to use this category of tools.

BCGCM2008B Erect and Dismantle Restricted Height Scaffolding

Rob has safely erected and dismantled scaffolding to a maximum of 4 metres for use on a construction site. He is aware of the restrictions/requirements on the use of scaffolding on a construction site. He has assisted licensed contractors in assembly and dismantling of scaffolding.

BCGCM2003B Carry Out Concreting to Simple Forms

Rob has installed basic formwork and reinforcement to construct minor concrete slabs, pathways, footings etc. He has cleared the site, poured and finished concrete in these simple forms.
